Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 20. Catholic Social Services (CSS) is throwing a community celebration, and you are invited. From 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the organization is opening the doors of its brand-new facility at 124 S. Colorado Ave for a Building Blessing + Family Festival. The goal is to bring together Hastings' churches, organizations and families for a day of joy, fellowship and awareness of all God is doing in the town.
Guests are encouraged to come hungry and grab a bite from a lineup of local food trucks and be the first to taste the exclusive new "Hope in the Good Life" blend, rolling out that day in a partnership with LD Roasters, which will also be on-site supplying beverages.
The event is designed for all ages. The Kids' Corner will include face painting, coloring sheets and CSS swag. As attendees explore the grounds, they can pick up a "Passport to Service" and collect stamps by visiting local nonprofit partners in Community Row, grab a fresh bar of soap at the Pacha Soap station and take a staff-led tour of the new facility. Sodbuster baseball players and Buster, their mascot, are also expected to be on-site. Those who complete their passport will be entered in a grand prize drawing.
At 1 p.m., the festival will pause for a moment of dedication. CSS will welcome Bishop James D. Conley from Lincoln, along with several partnering local priests and pastors, to lead a community prayer and blessing of the new building and grounds. The prayer will focus on the specific spaces—from the food prep area to the chapel—where lives will be changed.
Organizers say all are welcome, whether they are long-time volunteers, community partners or families looking for a Saturday afternoon activity. The June 20 event marks a new chapter in the effort to bring "Hope in the Good Life" to Hastings.
