Our item drive for CSS Lincoln has already made a hope in the good life difference for our neighbors in need
From the CSS front desk, Sarah shares these heartfelt thank-you comments from our walk-in clients:
It feels like my birthday, just being able to receive these products makes me feel so cared for. Thank you.
I deeply appreciate all the things you gave me, it means a lot to me.
It is so nice to feel clean again, and have dry socks on my feet.
St. Gianna Program Director Veronica Pino has seen the impact your generosity makes, too. She reflects:
It’s amazing to me how many household items are used at St. Gianna Women’s Home. Before a family moves in, each apartment is fully stocked not only with the large things like furniture, small kitchen appliances, dishes, bedding, and pillows but also with all of the little things: shampoo and conditioner, body wash, hand soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and towels. I love walking through the apartments a day or two before a new resident joins us and seeing all of the little details prepared for them. It is one way we give them a safe, loving, and dignified place to live. Recently a client who just moved into St. Gianna Women’s Home with her daughter walked into the apartment with her Advocate and started crying. She said “It’s the nicest place I’ve ever lived.” We are not just providing shelter - we are providing a new beginning. If they come with nothing but the clothes on their backs, we want them to have everything they need to start that new beginning. Providing a beautiful and well-prepared place is a way to tell them - without words - that they are valued and loved.
It takes a lot of donations to make all of this happen, though - especially as we also give them many of those personal care items throughout their stay in the program.
Please note: Our neighbors experiencing homelessness need shampoo, sunscreen, razors, bug spray, and deodorant, so smaller packages and quantities will help us serve their needs. Thank you.
