The NCF internship has opened my eyes to just how amazing Perkins County really is. Growing up, it’s easy to overlook and take things for granted. This internship has enabled me to fully realize all the big and small assets that Perkins County has and makes it so amazing.
Everyone has gifts and talents to share. What do you hope to share with your hometown this summer?
The Lord has blessed me with the ability to talk to anyone and to focus on the good in people and places. I wish to be a light to others so that they will have a common courage to reach out to others even more in their community in love, and to see all the good Perkins County offers.
What should older adults know about your generation of Nebraskans?
I want them to know that they are not forgotten about. The older generation is the only reason we are here, not only as parents and grandparents, but as leaders and guardians. They are the people who loved us and made us the people and community we are today. We love you and want to give back.
How does belonging play a role in your attachment to your hometown?
Having a sense of belonging can be hard to find in a small town, but in Perkins County, I have always had people who have been there to love and encourage me on whatever path I was pursuing.
What are your hopes and dreams for the future of your community?
My dream is to live in a community that remembers the importance of community, that we are best when we are together. There are many people who want to help. My dream is for us all to remember that we are not alone in that desire to dream and help make a better Perkins County and a better tomorrow.
What are you looking for in a place to call home?
I am looking for a place that is full of love, love for others, and a willingness to help and encourage one another. To not focus on what makes us different, but on what brings us together and use that as a driving force to continue to love and strive for excellence.
If you were designing a future for yourself in Greater Nebraska, what would that look like?
Lord willing, I would have come back to my hometown as a conservation officer, where I would be active in the church as a youth pastor or in other forms of youth ministries. Along with that, I would be part of various community betterment programs and be an advocate for those programs.
