Gold, who was named president earlier this year, said he chose the venue to tell Nebraskans their university "will always be of, with, and for" the people of the state.

Osborn qualifies for ballot
Dan Osborn, a U.S. Navy veteran and former labor leader who is seeking to unseat Nebraska's senior U.S. senator in November, has officially qualified for the ballot, his campaign announced Thursday.
Nebraska's Secretary of State's Office confirmed Thursday that the independent candidate submitted enough valid signatures last month to square off in November with Republican Sen. Deb Fischer, who is seeking her third term in the Senate this fall.
Osborn in August submitted more than 12,000 signatures to Secretary of State Bob Evnen's office — three times the number of signatures interdependent candidates running for statewide office need to reach the ballot in Nebraska.
The crowd-favorite tradition of fans releasing red balloons when the Huskers score their first touchdown is in play for the first time since 2021.
The tradition faded away before the 2022 season, with then-athletic director Trev Alberts citing a helium shortage, as well as other environmental concerns.
The tradition was once paused in 2012 due to a helium shortage, it returned later.
