Interpreting runs in family
For 21 years, Davida Schejbal has worked as an interpreter, both in and out of Lincoln Public Schools, but she never expected her career would turn into something of a family affair, that two of her daughters would someday follow in her footsteps.
Less than a mile down the road from Irving Middle School, where Schejbal works, her oldest daughter, Ashten Schuler, is at Beattie Elementary interpreting for students, too, following the example Schejbal set for her throughout her entire life. And within the community, Schejbal's second daughter, Arriah Baker, is doing the same thing, using what her family taught her to help other people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Said Schejbal, “There’s definitely a level of pride here. It's like an accomplishment."
'Realigning' ag programs
The University of Nebraska is planning to open new connections between the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture and its other agriculture education and research sites next year amid a leadership transition at the Curtis school.
A “realignment” of NCTA and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will create more opportunities for students at both locations, said Mike Boehm, NU’s vice president for agriculture.
Students in a two-year program at NCTA will be able to dual-enroll in advanced courses at CASNR in pursuit of either a four-year bachelor's degree or a specialized certificate that improves their career prospects, Boehm said.
Meanwhile, students at UNL could take welding classes or fill in other gaps in their technical know-how at NCTA, earning an associate's degree while continuing a major in biosystems engineering, he added.
Super-State football teams
The best of the best from the Nebraska high school football season have been revealed in the Journal Star's 2024 Super-State and all-state football teams.
Check out the top players in the state on offense and defense as well as the top players in each class.
Included on the team are several future Huskers as well as a number of other players committed to play football at major colleges, such as Florida State, Kansas State and Texas Tech.
