Shooting victim ID'd

A man who died Friday night was dragged nearly a mile after he grabbed on to the door handle of a bystander's Jeep in the parking lot where he was fatally shot.

The Lincoln Police Department identified the victim on Monday and said they believe he was shot during a marijuana deal.

25-year-old Francisco Alvis of Lincoln died at a local hospital Friday after being shot multiple times, Lincoln Police Capt. Ben Miller said during a press conference.

Officers were sent to the Russ's Market parking lot at 1520 S. Coddington Ave. at about 10 p.m. Friday on reports of gunshots. Police found Alvis about a mile away with multiple gunshot wounds near South Folsom and West A streets.

Police arrested 20-year-old Ge'Auvieon Crayton of Lincoln on Saturday. He is accused of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony in connection to the death, which is believed to be Lincoln’s sixth homicide this year.

NU will pay to use fields

University of Nebraska Athletics will pay $200,000 a year to use the Sandhills Global Youth Complex baseball and softball fields for practice and will pay an estimated $700,000 to convert one of the fields to collegiate level standards.

The university will also pay up to $10,000 a year in field maintenance and equipment storage, and anything beyond that will be subject to advance notice and mutual approval, according to an agreement signed by NU Athletic Director Troy Dannen and the youth complex board.

NIL partnership announced

The name-image-likeness collective that has been central to Nebraska football recruiting for nearly two years is now the official collective of Husker athletics.

NU’s athletic department announced Monday the partnership with 1890 Nebraska.

A key difference for fans is that financial contributions to the NIL collective now make them eligible for Huskers Athletic Fund priority points — which can add up to benefits including priority seating — as if they were donating to the athletic department itself.

The collective is supported by the Peed family — which runs Sandhills Global — with every dollar going directly to student-athletes.
