Saturday: Dubuque 4, Lincoln 2.
What went wrong: After posting back-to-back games of 30-plus shots, the Stars were held to only 18 shots as Dubuque capitalized with three goals in the second period that helped build a 4-1 lead. Matias Maccelli wasted no time scoring 50 seconds into regulation to give the Saints a quick 1-0 lead that stood after 20 minutes of play. After Lincoln's Shane Pinto tied the game 1-1 17 seconds into the second period, Maccelli quickly gained the lead back for Dubuque with his second of the game. The Saints added two more goals in the period, including a Dallas Tulik power-play goal.
What went right: After Pinto's 12-game point streak was snapped Friday in a 4-1 loss to Des Moines at the Ice Box, Pinto quickly got back on track with his 17th goal of the season. Tristan Ashbrook added the Stars' second goal early in the third period to cut the deficit to 4-2. Lincoln committed just one penalty, but the Saints capitalized in the second period. Tyler Johnson finished with 26 saves on 30 shots faced in his return to net.
Up next: Lincoln travels to face the Madison Capitols at 6 p.m. Thursday.
