Stars power play: Omaha third-period outburst dismantles Lincoln

What went wrong: After Lincoln led 2-1 early in the third period the Lancers scored five unanswered goals. Jaxon Nelson scored twice in the final frame, including a short-handed goal that tied the game 2-2 1:57 into the period. Tyler Carpenter scored twice in 21 seconds from 3:08 to 3:29 that gave Omaha a 4-2 lead that chased starting Lincoln goaltender Samuel Hlavaj. Nelson added his second goal of the period on Jake Mucitelli, who replaced Hlavaj, and Nelson and Anderson added assists on Omaha's final goal at 19:38, scored by Grand Anderson.

What went right: Hlavaj started strong, stopping seven of eight Lancers' shots he faced in the first period, and Samuli Niinisaari gave Lincoln a 1-0 lead 5:06 into regulation, despite Omaha tying the score late in the first. Tristan Ashbrook continued his hot streak with his seventh goal of the season that gave the Stars a 2-1 lead 63 seconds into the third period.

Up next: Lincoln returns to the Ice Box on Sunday with a game against the Eastern Conference's Muskegon Lumberjacks at 2 p.m.
