What went wrong: Team USA wasted no time putting the game out of reach, posting four goals in the first period to take a commanding 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play Saturday at the Ice Box. That lead stretched to 7-0 after the second period before Lincoln broke the shutout. Team USA had goals from eight different players. Samuel Hlavaj, making his second consecutive start, lasted just 20 minutes in the Stars' net, allowing four goals and finishing with 12 saves. In relief, Jacob Mucitelli allowed five goals and made 19 saves as the Stars were outshot 40-17, and finished 0-for-4 on the power play. Jack Hughes and Cole Caufield of Team USA each picked up a goal Saturday, totaling three apiece in the two-game series.
What went right: Michael Colella put a small spark in the Stars, breaking the shutout just 26 seconds into period three. After Team USA regained a seven-goal lead at 8-1, Josh Lopina found the back of the net for Lincoln's second goal at 9:53. Team USA scored 14 seconds later to regain the seven-goal lead. Caleb Rule put in Lincoln's third goal with 59 seconds remaining on an assist from Zach Dubinsky.
