What went wrong: After Lincoln staged a comeback and took a 3-2 lead, Dubuque scored the final three goals in the third period in Tyler Johnson's debut in net for Lincoln. Caleb Rule gave Lincoln a brief 3-2 lead 4:22 into the third period, only to be answered by the Saints' Chris Lipe 1 minute, 12 seconds later. Dylan Jackson gave Dubuque the go-ahead tally with his third goal of the game with 3 minutes, 29 seconds left before J.D. Greenway sealed the victory with an empty-net goal. Jackson scored twice in the first 5:02 in the first period to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.
What went right: Trailing 2-0 early, the Stars scored three consecutive goals, capped by Rule's go-ahead goal in the third period. Logan Britt tied the game early in the third period, scoring his first of the season 3:04 into the frame. Josh Lopina also scored his first of the season, putting the Stars on the board in the first period to cut Dubuque's lead to 2-1.
