Thursday: Madison 4, Lincoln 3.
What went wrong: Just about everything for Lincoln, as the Stars lost to the worst team in the USHL in Madison, Wisconsin. Madison entered the contest sitting in last place in the Eastern Conference with just six wins and was winless in its last 10 games. The Capitols score less than two goals per game but finished off with four Thursday, including the game-winner by Josh Boyer with less than a minute to play. The Stars had six opportunities on the power play and failed to score.
What went right: Once again, the Stars fired enough shots — 24 — to score goals, including 12 in the third period. But Lincoln couldn't complete the comeback in the third. Caleb Rule scored five minutes into the final period to tie the game at 3. It was Rule's 11th goal of the season. The bright spot came from the penalty-kill unit, which didn't allow a goal on either of its two series.
Up next: The Stars battle Omaha on the road on Saturday, then return home to face Muskegon on Sunday.
