Monday: St. Paul 6, Lincoln 5
What went wrong: Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, the Saltdogs loaded the bases at Haymarket Park with one out but were unable to score any runs. After Cody Regis grounded out, Curt Smith was hit by a pitch, and John Sansone and Tyler Moore strung together back-to-back singles. The Saints got out of the inning unscathed by getting Nick Schulz to ground into a double play. St. Paul added to the lead in the top of the seventh with a solo home run from Brady Shoemaker, his second of the game. Shoemaker also homered in the fifth with a two-run blast that helped give St. Paul its second lead of the game. The Saints were fast out of the gate against Lincoln starter Kyle Kinman, scoring three runs on three hits and an error in the top of the first.

What went right: Lincoln pitchers had the strikeout pitch working, combining for nine. Kinman finished with five, while Austin Boyle and Jake Hohensee each recorded two in relief. The Dogs scratched back in the second and third innings to take a 4-3 lead before St. Paul regained the advantage. Cody Regis scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the second and Tyler More added an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-2. Lincoln struck again in the third with four hits, two runs and one left on base to take a 4-3 lead.
What's next: The second game of the three-game series against St. Paul is Tuesday, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
