Sunday: Lincoln 6, Texas 5, 11 inn.
What went right: Curt Smith and the Saltdogs capitalized on Texas' sixth error of the game in the 11th inning when Auggie Francis struck out on a dropped third strike and the ensuing throw from AirHog's catcher Luan Chenchen went over first baseman Josh Prince. That allowed Smith to score in walk-off fashion from second base. Lincoln started fast early, scoring three runs in the first three innings behind two Cody Regis home runs. Regis hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the first that gave Lincoln a 2-0 lead and tied the game 3-3 with a solo shot in the third. The Saltdogs only trailed once, but held four different leads in the game. John Brownell had seven strikeouts over six innings for the Saltdogs, but it was Austin Pettibone that picked up the win in relief after pitching two innings where he allowed just one hit.
What went wrong: Lincoln failed to complete a double play in the ninth that would have ended the game after Regis committed an error at first base, allowing Chenchen to tie the game 5-5. Despite six solid innings from Brownell, the Omaha native allowed a three-run blast in the top of the third that gave Texas its only lead of the game at 3-2.
Dog bytes: Christian Ibarra picked up his league-leading 28th walk of the season.
What's next: The Saltdogs hit the the road, beginning a three-game series against Cleburne Tuesday at 7 p.m.
