The Memorial Day weekend racing action starts Thursday night with the ASCS Midwest Region sprint cars running at I-80 Speedway near Greenwood. Racing begins at 7 p.m., with NASCAR-sanctioned late models, B-mods and pro-ams also on the card.

On Friday, the ASCS sprints move onto Junction Motor Speedway near McCool Junction. Again, racing is set for 7 p.m.

Elsewhere in racing: Jesse Hockett, a two-time champion of the Sprint Bandits series, died Wednesday in an accident in his Warsaw, Mo., race shop. The ASCS reported that the 26-year-old was electrocuted while preparing his training for a four-day weekend of racing.
