Creighton lost the first set to North Carolina on Saturday, but responded to win the next three for a 30-32, 25-18, 25-18, 25-14 victory in the second round of the NCAA volleyball tournament in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The 16th-seeded Bluejays (27-8) advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history and will play top-seeded USC on Friday in the Los Angeles Regional. The Women of Troy swept Creighton earlier this season.
It was Creighton's first win in 32 tries in true road matches against a ranked foe, and improves CU to 5-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Bluejays are coached by Lincoln East graduate Kirsten Bernthal Booth.
Creighton's Jaali Winters had 21 kills and a career-high 21 digs for her 16th double-double of the season.
Lincoln Pius X graduate Lauren Smith had 15 kills and five blocks on .452 hitting for Creighton, which hit .286. Lincoln Southwest graduate Marysa Wilkinson added 11 kills and four blocks.
In the first set, Winters set a school single-season record with her 517th kill, breaking Leah Ratzlaff's record set in 2003.
Creighton took control of the second set, streaking to a 12-5 lead, and never looked back.
