Midland advanced through the Round of 16 and into the quarterfinals of the NAIA volleyball tournament on Friday in Sioux City, Iowa, with a victory over Missouri Baptist.
The Warriors (25-7) took down Missouri Baptist 25-23, 22-25, 25-17, 25-18 and will face Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky) in the quarterfinals on Friday night.
Priscilla O'Dowd led the Warriors with 19 kills, while Taylor Peterson chipped in with 13 and Jenny Blair had 10. O'Dowd also added in eight blocks for Midland.
Lindsey Wilson (23-13) defeated Corban (Oregon) in the Round of 16 on Friday afternoon 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.
Trailing by two sets against Lindsey Wilson in the quarterfinals, Midland mounted a comeback and won three straight sets to advance to the NAIA semifinals. The Warriors uses 20 kills from O'Dowd to stage the come-from-behind win.
Midland will now face Park (Mo.) at 11 a.m. in the semifinals on Saturday. The other semifinal pits Viterbo (Wis.) versus Columbia (Mo.). The winners will play at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Hastings: Hastings' season came to a close in the Round of 16 at the NAIA volleyball tournament Friday.
No. 3 Columbia (Missouri) swept the 13th-ranked Broncos (22-7) 25-12, 25-8, 25-14 to advance to the quarterfinals. Columbia (40-4) held Hastings to a minus-.053 hitting percentage.
Columbia jumped to a 20-4 lead in the first set and an 18-4 lead in the second.
Emily Lenners and Matti Dabovich each had four kills and Casey Krolikowski had eight digs for the Broncos, who reached the Round of 16 by going unbeaten in pool play.
Midland, ranked 14th, was set to play No. 4 Missouri Baptist at 3:45 p.m. Friday.
Fellow GPAC member Dordt advanced to the quarterfinals with a 23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-19 win against Eastern Oregon. Northwestern's (Iowa) season came to a close with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-21 loss to Viterbo (Wisconsin).
