Daniel Simonis scored in the third minute of overtime to help No. 7 Hastings defeat No. 14 Corban (Oregon) 2-1 in Hastings in the opening round of the NAIA soccer tournament.

Goalkeeper Joe White preserved a 1-1 tie made Simonis' golden goal possible with a diving save on a penalty kick in the 85th minute of regulation. White had four saves in the game.

The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute when Corban keeper Jordan Farr made a save on a shot from Brayant Toro, and Murilo Ceruli pushed the rebound past him. Corban (15-3-4) tied it on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.

The win puts Hastings (19-3) into the round of 16. The Broncos will play No. 2 William Carey on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Central in Delray Beach, Florida.

Hastings women lose in first round

Caroline Jenkins' goal in the 15th minute gave No. 13 Ottawa (Kansas) a 1-0 victory over the Broncos in the first round of the NAIA Tournament in Ottawa. The Broncos outshot Ottawa 11-3, including 7-3 in shots on goal, but couldn't get anything past keeper Kodie Johnson, who made five of her seven saves in the second half. It's the second consecutive season Ottawa (17-3-1)  has eliminated Hastings (15-3-4) in the first round.
