Concordia University is hoping to cash in on the success that follows Andrew Nicola everywhere he’s coached.

Nicola was named the Bulldogs’ wrestling coach Friday. He replaces Dana Vote, who left to become director of wrestling operations at Iowa State after four years at Concordia.

Nicola coached at California Baptist for two years and helped the Lancers win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and finish sixth at the NCAA Division II national championships. He also coached at Cumberland in Tennessee and Central Missouri State after coaching at the high school level.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native credited his coaches for leadership and giving him confidence to become a head coach.

“I want anyone and everyone who hears about our boys to associate them with respect, hard work, discipline and loyalty,” Nicola said. “There is such a solid group returning and coming into the program (restarted in 2009) that our goal should not be short of a top-five finish in the classroom, the nationals and at the national duals this season.”

Nicola graduated from Indiana and earned his master's degree at Central Missouri.
