Loras outscored the Nebraska Wesleyan women's basketball team by 20 points in the paint to notch a 79-61 victory in Tuesday's opening round of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament in Dubuque, Iowa.
After starting 8-of-17 from the field, the Prairie Wolves shot just 27 percent (13-of-48) over the final three quarters. The third-seeded Duhawks shot 49 percent from the field and were 26-of-33 from the free-throw line, including 13-of-18 in the fourth quarter, to salt away the win. Loras also held a 47-31 rebounding edge.
Caitlin Navratil led the Prairie Wolves with 31 points, the highest single-game total for NWU this year. Lori Obendorf scored 31 points and added 15 rebounds to lead Loras.
NWU finished the year at 13-13, its best overall record since the 2000-01 season. Loras faces Luther College in Thursday's semifinals.
NWU men draw Central
The Nebraska Wesleyan men will host Central College in Thursday's IIAC semifinals at 7 p.m. at Snyder Arena.
The Prairie Wolves were 2-0 against Central during the regular season, averaging 97 points per game. Central knocked off Simpson 76-66 on Tuesday.
