Top-seeded Concordia defeated No. 3 seed Dakota Wesleyan 75-63 Tuesday in Seward to win the women's GPAC Tournament championship.
NAIA Division II No. 1 Concordia pulled away down the stretch over fourth-ranked Dakota Wesleyan en route to its third consecutive GPAC title. The Tigers jumped out to an early six-point lead at 9-3 in the first quarter, but found themselves trailing 42-32 at the break.
The Bulldogs led 55-53 going into the fourth quarter after being outscored 21-13 in the third. Leading 65-63 with 5:59 to play, Concordia shut out Dakota Wesleyan the rest of the way. The Tigers went 0-for-6 from the floor and 0-for-2 from the free-throw line during the drought.
Grace Barry led the Bulldogs with 18 points, Taylor Cockerill finished with 13 and Philly Lammers chipped in 10. The Tigers were paced by Sarah Carr with 18 points and Rylie Osthus with 12 points.
Concordia swept the regular-season meetings, beating then-No. 1 Dakota Wesleyan 82-68 on the road and a fifth-ranked Tiger squad 79-66 at home, after losing to the Tigers in the national title game last March.
Both teams have secured an automatic berth to the NAIA Women's Division II National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, which runs March 6-12 at the Tyson Events Center. The NAIA National Tournament Selection Show is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday on Facebook Live.
