The Nebraska women’s basketball team has earned the No. 6-seed for the Big Ten Tournament this week and will play its first game on Thursday evening in Indianapolis.
Nebraska will play at about 8 p.m. on Thursday against the winner of Wednesday’s first-round game between 11th-seeded Purdue and No. 14-seed Illinois. Nebraska's game will be on TV on the Big Ten Network.
Nebraska (14-15, 9-9 Big Ten) won both games it played against Purdue this season, and is 1-0 vs. Illinois.
With a win on Thursday Nebraska would play No. 3-seed Rutgers on Friday evening in the quarterfinals. Nebraska only played Rutgers once, losing 62-56 in January.
Rutgers would be playing its first game of the tournament, and is on a three-game winning streak. Top-seeded Maryland, No. 2-seed Iowa and fourth-seed Michigan also earned a two-round bye into the quarterfinals.
Nebraska won three of its final four games to move into a tie for sixth place in the league standings. Nebraska finished in a four-way tie for sixth in the standings, but held the collective tiebreakers over Minnesota, Michigan State and Northwestern. The Huskers went 3-1 against that group of teams with wins over ranked Minnesota and Michigan State squads while splitting two games with Northwestern.
Nebraska was the No. 3 seed for the Big Ten Tournament last season, and reached the semifinals.
