The Nebraska softball team opened play in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with a power display.

Tristen Edwards and Lindsey Walljasper combined for three home runs in leading the Huskers to a 7-2 win against No. 23 N.C. State on Friday in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Huskers (5-2) followed with a 14-1, five-inning victory against Pittsburgh (1-6).

Junior Samantha Owen hit a grand slam, and Edwards continued her big day with a three-run shot against the Panthers.

Against N.C. State, Edwards, a junior, hit two solo shots, while the freshman Walljasper hit a three-run homer to give the Huskers a five-run cushion in the third inning.

Walljasper also led the way in the circle, scattering five hits over six innings while striking out a career-high nine. Senior Regan Mergele continued her strong play as a reliever, pitching a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two.

Edwards, who finished with two hits and three RBIs, got the Huskers on the board with a homer in the top of the first inning.

Junior Bree Boruff led off the third with a single, and senior Alyvia Simmons reached on a base hit to right field. Then Walljasper blasted a three-run shot.

The Wolfpack (3-3) scored two unearned runs in the sixth to pull within 6-2 before the Huskers got a run back in the top of the seventh on Edwards' second solo shot.

The Huskers finished with 10 hits against Pitt. Boruff went 3-for-3 with a career-best three runs scored and a career-high three RBIs, while sophomore Rylie Unzicker extended her hit streak to five games.

Edwards' three-run shot gave the Huskers a 6-0 lead in the second inning.

Nebraska batted through the lineup in the third inning, scoring three runs to put the game out of reach. For good measure, Owen's slam came in the fifth.

Olivia Ferrell (2-1) picked up the win, pitching a complete game. She came three outs away from tossing a no-hitter.

Nebraska will play N.C. State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
