The Nebraska softball team Sunday begins a fall exhibition slate that features eight home games.
The Huskers play South Dakota in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Sunday at Bowlin Stadium.
Nebraska returns 12 players from last season, including NFCA All-Region pick Alyvia Simmons, a senior. Simmons batted .346 last season.
The other returning seniors are Madi Unzicker, Regan Mergele and Bri Cassidy. Tristen Edwards, who batted .356 and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in the spring, and will be joined by fellow juniors Lexey Kneib and Bree Boruff.
The other returnees are sophomores Sarah Yocom, Rylie Unzicker, Ally Riley and Olivia Ferrell. Payton Huscroft, who missed last season with an injury, returns as a redshirt freshman. The Huskers also have eight newcomers on the roster.
The Huskers will play North Dakota in a doubleheader at Bowlin on Sept. 23, with the Big Red Fall Classic set for Oct. 6-7. The Huskers will play two games each day of the tournament. Omaha and Colorado State will come to Lincoln for the tournament.
