It didn't take long for Tristen Edwards to put a slow start to the season behind her.
The junior capped a big weekend by tying a school single-game record with eight RBIs as the Husker softball team rolled to a 16-2, five-inning win against Pittsburgh on Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The victory capped a 4-0 weekend in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. NU (7-2) scored a combined 43 runs in wins against No. 23 N.C. State and Pitt.
Edwards played a leading role in the offensive attack. She went 4-for-4 with two homers, including a grand slam, and a double on Sunday. The four hits were a career high.
Edwards finished 7-for-12 with 14 RBIs and five homers in Raleigh. The junior shortstop went 2-for-16 a week earlier at the Lone State College Classic in Houston.
Only two others have finished with eight RBIs wearing a Husker uniform. Alicia Armstrong drove in eight against Omaha in 2016, and Tristen's sister Taylor had eight against Illinois-Chicago in 2013.
NU finished with 10 hits Sunday against the Panthers (1-8). Alyvia Simmons and Bri Cassidy each had two hits.
The Huskers sent 13 batters to the plate in a nine-run third inning. Four of those runs came on one swing from Edwards, who sent a blast over the right-field fence.
Edwards hit a two-run shot to extend the lead to 16-0 in the fourth inning.
Freshman Courtney Wallace pitched a complete game to improve to 2-0. She gave up two runs on three hits and struck out four.
