Nebraska vs. Iowa Soccer, 10/5

Nebraska's Natalie Cooke drives towards the goal as Iowa's Isabella Blackman provides an obstacle Oct. 5 Friday at Hibner Stadium.

The Big Ten women’s soccer standings are a close race this season. So close that one loss can drop a team down the list.

Nebraska’s loss last Friday to Iowa, the Huskers' (8-4-3, 4-1-2) first to a conference opponent this season, dropped the team three spots to fourth in the conference standings, but with the way the schedule is set up, every week is another chance to do some climbing.

The Huskers welcome Michigan and Michigan State to Hibner Stadium this weekend with an eye on returning to the top 25 rankings. They’re currently receiving votes after the loss to Iowa while their RPI sits at No. 29.

Neither the Wolverines nor the Spartans have had much success in the Big Ten this year, so the two games, while tough, will provide the Huskers a chance to return to form before heading out on their final road trip of the season at Wisconsin next week.

Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday against the Wolverines, with the first 450 fans receiving Nebraska soccer scarves, and Sunday’s match will begin at 1 p.m.
