The numbers are starting to look more pleasing to the eye of Mike Riley.
Take the linebackers. The Huskers would preferably like 12 on scholarship. After Wednesday's signings, they have 10, as well as Chris Weber, the walk-on who has made a strong case to receive one.
That's no small thing, considering how far NU was from that target 14 months ago.
Hitting the right scholarship numbers for each position requires some serious planning — and, sometimes, restraint.
"You're trying to hit those spots,” said the Husker head coach. "And sometimes, if it’s a big number you got to get to, you don’t necessarily want to do all of it one year if all of those kids are in the same class."
As it stands, there are 86 Huskers known to be on scholarship. There's an 85-person scholarship limit, but the Big Ten allows schools to go three over until summer, understanding some attrition is likely.
Of those 86 Huskers on scholarship: 21 seniors, 13 juniors, 19 sophomores, 12 redshirt freshmen, 21 true freshmen.
How are those scholarships separated by position groups? Let's look.
