Jamin Graham

Jamin Graham is a three-star rush end from Attalla, Alabama.

Things can happen fast in recruiting.

Like, really fast.

Take Jamin Graham, for instance.

The Attalla, Alabama, native has had a Nebraska scholarship in his pocket since March, but consider the way the story changed in the past week alone.

Husker coach Scott Frost flew down to visit him on Wednesday. An official visit got set up for the weekend. Graham saw what he needed to see.

By Sunday morning, he's verbal commit No. 22 in the Huskers' growing class.

"Just knowing, really, the people around here — the coaches and players and fans — they have high expectations for the football team," Graham told the Journal Star about why he chose the Huskers. "Just knowing that every day, I'm going to be pushed to be the best football player I can be and the best person I can be."

Graham is listed at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds and gives defensive coordinator Erik Chinander another long, rangy athlete for the outside of his defense. Graham will start his career at outside linebacker under the watch of assistant coach Jovan Dewitt but is likely capable of playing either that spot or defensive end, depending on how much he grows over the course of his college career.

Graham, a standout at Etowah High in the Northeast part of Alabama, also had offers from Minnesota, Louisville and others.

Every recruitment is a little bit different. Sometimes every twist and turn is reported, while others stay quiet. Graham didn't visit campus during the season or create much buzz in NU media circles before last week, but rest assured, the Huskers have been recruiting him hard for months.

"Oh, yeah, really hard," Graham said.

Then Frost came down to visit.

"That was great, just talking to him and getting to know him better," Graham said.

Next, a visit to Lincoln.

"I like it, it's a cool place to be," Graham said. "Everybody's friendly and nice and cares about you."

Graham will sign his National Letter of Intent on Dec. 19 and then enroll in the summer.

The Huskers are capable of taking up to 30 players in the 2019 cycle, and Graham is the beginning of what the school hopes will be a big push down the stretch. NU also had junior college defensive back Tony Wallace (Independence, Kansas, Community College) on a visit this weekend and will be hosting several more prospects over the next two weeks.

With Graham's commitment, the 22-man NU class stayed at No. 22 nationally and No. 4 in the Big Ten per 247Sports' rankings and No. 17 (No. 3 in the Big Ten) per Rivals.

The Huskers must replace the production of Luke Gifford at outside linebacker. Graham and fellow freshmen Garrett Nelson (Scottsbluff) are set to join a room where Tyrin Ferguson and Caleb Tannor return the most 2018 experience, Alex Davis will be a senior, JoJo Domann provides a hybrid-type option and Breon Dixon and David Alston will be coming off redshirt years.
