Record/conference standing

Thumbs up. Most Husker fans by now are familiar with the numbers: Since the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, 306 power conference teams have won 13 or more conference games, with 304 making the NCAA Tournament. The Big Ten has never had a team with at least 20 overall wins and fewer than seven conference losses miss the Big Dance.

RPI/metrics

Thumbs down. This is where the Huskers fall short, and why most bracketologists have NU on the outside looking in. Nebraska’s RPI, KPI, BPI and KenPom numbers are all hovering in the mid-50s to low-60s.

Eye test

Thumbs up. This is the most athletic Nebraska team in two decades. James Palmer is a star. And the Huskers have good guards, which you must have to win in March. The ingredients say tournament team. It’s up to the committee to decide if that’s enough.
