The Nebraska men's basketball team is hoping an intimate connection with an NBA star pays off on the recruiting trail.

The Huskers Tuesday extended a scholarship offer to 2020 point guard Zaire Wade, the son of Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade and stepson of Omaha native, actress, and massive Cornhusker fan Gabrielle Union.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Zaire Wade attends American Heritage School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

His father, of course, is a likely NBA hall-of-famer. Entering his 16th season, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Dwyane Wade has career averages of 22.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He has spent 14 of those seasons with the Heat.

He's also made appearances at Nebraska football games with Union, an avid Husker fan who briefly attended UNL before embarking on a long and successful acting career.

The couple made an appearance at last season's Nebraska-Rutgers football game, with Wade and Union throwing the bones at halftime to the delight of the sellout crowd.

Before the game, Wade got a workout in with the Cornhusker men's basketball team.

Zaire Wade spent this summer playing for E1T1 on the Nike EYBL circuit, and often had his famous parents — and some of their famous friends — watching from the sideline.

Dwyane Wade is a Chicago native who played his college ball at Marquette. He let the Golden Eagles to the 2003 Final Four while playing for coach Tom Crean.
