The Nebraska men's basketball team is hoping an intimate connection with an NBA star pays off on the recruiting trail.
The Huskers Tuesday extended a scholarship offer to 2020 point guard Zaire Wade, the son of Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade and stepson of Omaha native, actress, and massive Cornhusker fan Gabrielle Union.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Zaire Wade attends American Heritage School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
His father, of course, is a likely NBA hall-of-famer. Entering his 16th season, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Dwyane Wade has career averages of 22.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He has spent 14 of those seasons with the Heat.
He's also made appearances at Nebraska football games with Union, an avid Husker fan who briefly attended UNL before embarking on a long and successful acting career.
We'll be at the home opener & it will be Zaire's 1st time seeing the sea of red in person & seeing what our fans are like. #Nebraksa let's show him how we do #GoBigRed oh & I'm willing to loan him my Tommie Frazier jersey, @DwyaneWade doesnt even get to wear my jersey 🌽🌽🌽 https://t.co/UWoKKZeN1N
