NU football practice, 12.16.14

Nebraska quarterback A.J. Bush warms up at the start of football practice on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014.

Nebraska fans might just see a familiar face on the visiting sideline when Illinois arrives at Memorial Stadium on Nov. 10.

Former Husker quarterback A.J. Bush is joining the Illini as a graduate transfer after serving as a backup at Virginia Tech in 2017, Illini Inquirer reported Monday evening.

Bush transferred from NU to Iowa Western in August of 2016 before his redshirt sophomore season, having never seen game action as a Husker. He was originally recruited by Bo Pelini's staff and was listed at No. 3 on the depth chart as a redshirt freshman in Mike Riley's first season. Then, Riley and company secured a commitment from Tulane transfer Tanner Lee.

After a year at IWCC, Bush went to Virginia Tech, where he appeared in five games this fall, completing 7 of his 11 pass attempts.

The Illini have lost quarterbacks Jeff George Jr. (transfer) and Chayce Crouch (retired from football) this offseason and had just one returning player at the position.
