The Nebraska bowling team, competing in the NCAA Championships for the 16th consecutive season, won its first two matches Thursday in Wickliffe, Ohio.

Nebraska swept past both Arkansas State and Sacred Heart 2-0 in the best-of-three format and will play a semifinal match at 2 p.m. Friday against the morning's Vanderbilt vs. McKendree winner.

The Huskers defeated Arkansas State 996-969 in the Baker match, then followed with a 1,097-1,011 win in the team format.

Nebraska then dominated Sacred Heart 2-0 (1,015-999 and 1,024-858).

Megan Straub led the Huskers individually, finishing with a 248.5 average for the day.

Nebraska and Stephen F. Austin were the only teams to win twice Thursday.

Vanderbilt is the defending champion. The Huskers won NCAA titles in 2015, 2013, 2009, 2005 and 2004.

The championship match is at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and will be televised by ESPNU.
