Top-ranked UCLA began defense of its national title with a 197.250-195.700 win in women's gymnastics against No. 11 Nebraska on Friday night at Los Angeles' Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins have now outscored 29 straight opponents over their past nine meets.
Taylor Houchin provided the Huskers their biggest bright spots. The junior won the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.925. She also placed third on vault (9.825) and second in the all-around with a score of 39.350.
NU's Sienna Crouse placed fourth on vault with a 9.800.
Four Husker freshmen — Adnerys De Jesus, Sarah Hargrove, Kaylee Quinn and Abby Johnston — made their debuts. De Jesus had the busiest night of the four, competing in three of four events. She placed sixth on vault (9.775).
UCLA's Kyla Ross scored 9.850 or better in each of her four events to win the all-around title (39.650).
Nebraska will host Washington on Jan. 12 as part of the Tumble N' Rumble event with the Husker wrestling team.
