NU football vs. Minnesota, 10/20/18

Nebraska Maurice Washington (28) rushes to the three-yard line against Minnesota's Winston DeLattiboudere (46) in the second quarter at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018.

Nebraska sophomore running back Maurice Washington had his plea hearing bumped back several weeks in California court Wednesday morning.

The hearing was continued until July 25 because of a pending discovery request, a Santa Clara County Superior Court spokesman said.

Washington is facing two charges, including a felony, related to a sexually explicit video that he allegedly sent to a former girlfriend. The girl appears in the video and was 15 at the time it was made. Washington is not in the video and did not record it.

Washington was first charged in the case in mid-February. The new July court date is one week before the Huskers are to open preseason camp.

Neither Washington nor his Lincoln-based attorney, John C. Ball, were in the California courtroom Wednesday.

Washington, a San Jose native, compiled 676 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman in 2018 but was a limited participant in spring football this year because head coach Scott Frost and the coaching staff wanted Washington focused on school and his obligations related to the case.

Washington on June 4 was cited for possessing drug paraphernalia in his UNL dorm room when University police were called to the room because of a strong marijuana odor.
