Schuyler High School announced the hiring of former Nebraska football player Jason Ankrah as their next head football coach on Monday.
Ankrah, the Huskers' 2013 defensive captain, played 49 games in his Nebraska career. He went on to have professional stints with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans of the NFL (2014-16) before joining the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League in 2017.
He spent the last season as an assistant coach at Lincoln Pius X, and replaces Aaron Thumann. The Warriors went 1-8 in each of the last two seasons.
"I am more than thankful, excited, and proud to be a part of this great family as your head football coach," Ankrah said in a news release. "My love for the game will never surpass the passion I have for working with and developing young student athletes about life and the game of football.
"The new Schuyler football program is here! The success of this program will come from our daily attacking mentality in practice, home, school, and everything else we do. As we said at the University of Nebraska 'Day by day, we get better and better, till we can’t be beat, WON'T BE BEAT'. This is a process and it starts today! Were all in this together!"
