Note: The 2017 football season is fast approaching. Over 25 days, Husker Extra is taking a look at the top 25 players Nebraska will see on the gridiron this fall. Today, a menacing D-lineman checks in.

No. 8: Sam Hubbard

Ohio State Defensive End

*Junior, 6-5, 285 pounds

Last year vs. Nebraska: Had 3 tackles, including 2 for a loss, in Ohio State's 62-3 victory.

Last season's totals: 46 tackles, 8 tackles for loss and 3½ sacks. Also had four quarterback hurries.

Preseason buzz: Heading into just his third season with the Buckeyes, Hubbard ranks second on the team for career tackles for loss (16) and sacks (10), putting him on the Lott IMPACT Trophy preseason watch list.

Why he could give Nebraska fits: Hubbard has the size of a defensive lineman, the hands of a safety and the quick thinking of a lacrosse player. Hubbard exited his senior year of high school as the No. 1 prospect out of Ohio and earned Associated Press Division I All-American honors. He had 109 tackles and five interceptions, all five coming in the Ohio state playoffs, and also had 10 tackles in the state title game in 2013. Before choosing football and Ohio State, Hubbard was going to play college lacrosse.

He'll see the Huskers: Oct. 14 (Lincoln).
