Six Lincoln East wrestlers won titles in helping the Spartans capture the A-4 district championship Saturday in Kearney.
In a district that included Kearney and Grand Island, it was the Spartans rolling to the team title behind a 215½-point effort. Grand Island (173½) was second and Kearney (165) was third.
Freshman Brandon Baustert set the tone early for East, defeating Grand Island's Juan Pedro 4-3 in the 106-pound final. Baustert, who is ranked third in his weight class, defeated second-ranked Archie Heelen of Kearney via tiebreaker in the semifinals.
Maxx Mayfield (138) and Chance Fry (152) continued their dominating seasons with pinfall victories in their respective weight classes, and Andrew Muthersbaugh, who recently returned from shoulder surgery, edged Grand Island's Oscar Richter 3-2 at 182.
Nathan Rizek (120) and Chris Karmazin (220) also won weight classes for the Spartans, who qualified 12 for state.
Lincoln Pius X qualified eight for state, including Grant Gubbels, who placed second at 285 pounds.
The Thunderbolts were edged by Gretna by a point (101-100) for the fourth and final team spot for state.
A-2 at Omaha Central: Lincoln Southeast finished fifth with 95½ points, while qualifying six wrestlers for the state tournament.
Taye Hill, 126 pounds, and Brogan Zegers (160) paced the Knights with second-place finishes. Ethan Batteron (113) and Max McClatchey (170) finished third, while Preston Rauner (138) and Dyllon Bell (195) took home fourth-place finishes.
A-3 at Columbus: Five Lincoln Northeast wrestlers qualified for the state tournament.
Preston Mort won the 138-pound district title with a pin over Noah Molzahn of Fremont in 1 minute, 36 seconds. Chayse Schaub (145) and Anthony Stege (195) each finished second, while Peyton Spencer (285, 3rd) and Riley Chase (182, 4th) rounded out the Rocket qualifiers.
Seven Silver Hawks clinched qualifying bids, helping lead Southwest to a seventh-place finish (78½ points). Jack Spahn took second at 152 pounds, and Jaxon Morrow (120) and Ethan Carstens (160) added third-place finishes. Landan McLaughlin (106), Brody Wotasek (113), Chase Charroin (132) and Henry Lynch (170) each finished fourth.
C-3 at Aquinas: Lincoln Christian's Hunter Schwaninger qualified for state at 182 pounds, pinned Syracuse's Jerermy Marrero in 3:45.
