Waverly Invitational track meet

Mayson Conner clears 6 feet, 7 inches to win the boys high jump at the 2017 Waverly Invitational track meet Friday. Conner, the defending Class B state champion, set the meet record.

While the York boys basketball team was winning the Class B state title Saturday, their classmate was bringing home a national championship.

Nebraska track recruit and Duke senior Mayson Conner won the boys high jump at the New Balance Nationals Indoor in New York City Saturday by clearing 7 feet, 1¾ inches, a personal best. Conner, the two-time defending Class B state high jump champion, is currently tied for fifth on the Nebraska boys high school all-time charts at 7-1.

His 7-1¾ is not eligible for the all-time charts because it occurred outside the high school season. The 2018 Nebraska high school track & field season begins Thursday.
