Records through Saturday

Class A (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Millard West (7-0) | 2

2. Creighton Prep (8-2) | 1

3. Lincoln Southwest (4-0) | 6

4. Millard South (5-1) | 3

5. Omaha Westside (4-1) | 8

6. Omaha Burke (4-1) | 7

7. Papillion-La Vista (3-2) | 5

8. Elkhorn South (2-3) | 4

9. Gretna (4-0) | -

10. Millard North (4-3) | 10

Contenders: Grand Island, Lincoln Southeast.

Comments: A lot of shuffling around this week as some teams have gotten in several more games than others. Millard West jumps to the top spot after a perfect start, which includes wins over four rated teams. Prep certainly isn’t going anywhere, however, and the Junior Jays are currently riding a five-game winning streak. Southwest and Westside make the biggest jumps after stringing some wins together, while Gretna climbs into the Class A ratings for the first time since the team’s move up a class. Plenty of baseball ahead and, with the nice weather coming, the rankings will become less fluid week to week.

Key games: Tuesday—Millard South at Elkhorn South; Papillion-La Vista at Creighton Prep; Wednesday—Lincoln Southeast at Creighton Prep; Thursday-Saturday—Millard West Invite (Millard South, Omaha Westside, Papio, Elkhorn, Southwest, Lincoln East).

Class B

1. Waverly (3-2) | 3

2. Elkhorn (2-2) | 2

3. Omaha Roncalli (1-1) | 5

4. Bennington (4-1) | 6

5. Norris (2-1) | 4

6. Hastings (4-0) | 8

7. Wahoo/LL/BN (4-0) | 10

8. Omaha Skutt (1-4) | 1

9. Bennington (4-1) | 6

10. Lincoln Pius X (1-2) | 7

Contenders: Nebraska City, Ralston, Wayne, Seward.

Comments: Class B was a bit more difficult to get a pulse on as no team has played more than five games so far. Skutt’s struggles out of the gate are notable but are likely not a trend that will continue throughout the season. Waverly has the most impressive win of the Class B season so far with a 9-3 victory over Class A defending champion Creighton Prep, while Elkhorn has picked up two wins against Class A competition. Much like Class A, more will be known once the teams get used to a regular schedule with less inclement weather but, for now, it’s anyone spot at No. 1 in Class B.

Key games: Tuesday—Hastings at Seward, Omaha Roncalli at Wahoo/LL/BN; Thursday—Wahoo/LL/BN at Hastings; Friday—Omaha Skutt at Omaha Roncalli; Saturday—Norris at Platteview.
