Millard North vs. Lincoln High, 12.8

Millard North guard Elle Danley looks to pass the ball past Lincoln High center Nyayien Koang (21) at Lincoln High School earlier this month.

CLASS A

Team (Rec.) | Pvs

1. Millard South (6-0) | 1

2. Millard North (6-0) | 2

3. Omaha Northwest (4-2) | -

4. Papillion-La Vista (5-1) | 9

5. Omaha Westside (4-2) | 6

6. Lincoln Northeast (5-1) | 4

7. Lincoln Pius X (4-2) | 8

8. Millard West (3-3) | 7

9. Lincoln Southwest (5-2) | 3

10. Lincoln High (3-2) | 5

Contenders: Fremont, Lincoln East, Omaha Benson, Omaha Burke.

Comments: Millard South and Millard North have lived up to preseason billing and stand as the only unbeaten teams remaining in Class A. Millard South owns four wins against top-10 competition, and outside a five-point win against Omaha Marian, Millard North has won five games by an average of 23.8 points per game. Omaha Northwest has pushed Millard South twice and owns a win against Papio, so the Vikings are third. Despite missing multiple starters, Lincoln Northeast has bounced back from an early loss to Omaha Westside.

Key games: Thursday—Lincoln High at Lincoln Southwest. Friday—Millard North at Millard West, Lincoln Pius X at Lincoln East. Dec. 27-31—HAC Tournament. Dec. 27-Jan. 4—Metro Conference Tournament.

CLASS B

Team (Rec.) | Pvs

1. South Sioux City (4-1) | 1

2. Waverly (5-0) | 6

3. Seward (5-1) | 5

4. Elkhorn (3-1) | 3

5. Omaha Skutt (5-1) | -

6. Northwest (4-2) | 9

7. Norris (3-3) | 4

8. Crete (5-1) | 7

9. Elkhorn South (1-5) | 2

10. Sidney (6-1) | 8

Contenders: Beatrice, Hastings, North Platte, Platteview.

Comments: Class B has been wild. We're three weeks into the season, and only one unbeaten (Waverly) remains. OK, follow along now: Norris upended Elkhorn, which upended Omaha Skutt after the SkyHawks upended top-ranked South Sioux City. Couple the unpredictable nature of December hoops with the parity in Class B, and SSC remains at the top. Seward had a statement win at Norris on Friday, and Northwest, which nearly beat Seward, owns wins against Crete and Norris. Elkhorn South has been battling through a Class A schedule.

Key games: Tuesday—Elkhorn South at Elkhorn. Thursday—Crete at Waverly, Sidney at Mitchell. Friday—Bishop Neumann at Omaha Skutt.

CLASS C-1

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Wahoo (6-0) | 1

2. Mitchell (6-0) | 2

3. Bishop Neumann (4-1) | 3

4. West Point-Beemer (5-0) | 5

5. Grand Island CC (5-1) | 7

6. Lincoln Christian (6-1) | 8

7. Louisville (6-1) | 6

8. Malcolm (6-0) | -

9. Kearney Catholic (3-1) | -

10. Omaha Roncalli (4-1) | -

Contenders: Adams Central, Auburn, Broken Bow, Columbus Scotus, Ogallala, Ravenna, Syracuse.

Comments: Bishop Neumann lost to C-2 Hastings St. Cecilia on Saturday, but the Cavaliers, who had to replace three starters entering the season, have shown they're among the top teams in C-1. Neumann dominated Class A Gretna and earned a double-overtime win against Class B-rated Norris. Grand Island Central Catholic moves up after a win against Lincoln Christian. Malcolm opened the season with a win against then-No. 4 Auburn, and still hasn't lost. Omaha Roncalli gets in at No. 10 after beating Class B Beatrice.

Key games: Tuesday—West Point-Beemer at Archbishop Bergan. Thursday—Sidney at Mitchell, Louisville at Malcolm. Friday—Bishop Neumann at Omaha Skutt.

CLASS C-2

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Superior (7-0) | 1

2. Hastings SC (6-0) | 2

3. Oakland-Craig (7-0) | 3

4. Clarkson/Leigh (6-1) | -

5. BRLD (5-1) | 6

6. Crofton (5-2) | 7

7. Guardian Angels CC (7-1) | -

8. Battle Creek (4-0) | -

9. Fillmore Central (6-1) | -

10. Blue Hill (3-3) | 10

Contenders: Bridgeport, Burwell, Centennial, Doniphan-Trumbull, Elm Creek, Hartington CC, Lourdes CC, Stanton.

Comments: It's pretty clear who the top three teams are right now. Superior's average margin of victory is 30 points, St. Cecilia's is 25.3 and Oakland-Craig's is 22. St. Cecilia recorded a 15-point win against C-1-rated Bishop Neumann. Clarkson/Leigh's only loss is to Oakland-Craig, and its biggest win is against BRLD in overtime. Blue Hill's three losses are to Superior, St. Cecilia and Grand Island Central Catholic.

CLASS D-1

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. North Platte St. Pat's (7-0) | 2

2. Pleasanton (5-1) | 1

3. Humphrey/LHF (4-1) | 3

4. Archbishop Bergan (5-2) | 4

5. Dundy Co.-Stratton (8-0) | 6

6. North Central (5-0) | 7

7. Elkhorn Valley (7-0) | 8

8. Elgin/PJ (5-1) | 9

9. Hitchcock County (4-1) | 10

10. Weeping Water (4-2) | -

Contenders: Cambridge, Hartington-Newcastle, McCool-Junction, Overton.

Comments: Wins against four Class C-1 teams — including Broken Bow, Hershey and Ogallala — vaults North Platte St. Pat's to the top spot. All-stater Kaleigh Kummer is averaging 15.7 points for the Irish. Archbishop Bergan is not punished for losses against rated teams in Classes C-1 and C-2. Pleasanton and Humphrey/LHF also have losses to teams in higher classes.

2. Exeter-Milligan (7-0) | 4

3. Falls City SH (6-1) | 2

4. BDS (4-1) | 3

5. CWC (4-3) | 5

6. Ewing (4-1) | 6

7. Wynot (5-1) | 8

8. Mullen (4-1) | 7

9. Kenesaw (3-2) | -

10. Loomis (6-1) | -

Contenders: Hyannis, Maywood-Hayes Center, Red Cloud, South Platte, Sterling, Wilcox-Hildreth.

Comments: The top-ranked Flyers entered the season needing to replace all-stater Logan Wemhoff. Their offense hasn't lost a step, averaging 68.2 points per game. Exeter-Milligan, led by all-stater Kate Jansky, has looked strong early, as well. CWC lost close games to D-1-rated teams North Central and Elkhorn Valley and remains at No. 5 thanks to a 25-point win against Ewing.

Key games: Dec. 28—Crofton at Wynot.
