Lincoln East vs. Lincoln Southeast, 1.11

Lincoln Southeast Catina Carnicle (top left) attempts to block a shot on Lincoln East's Taylor Searcey at Lincoln Southeast on Jan. 11.

Records through Saturday

CLASS A

Team (Rec.) | Pvs

1. Millard North (17-3) | 1

2. Millard South (17-3) | 2

3. Lincoln East (15-5) | 8

4. Lincoln Southwest (17-4) | 5

5. Lincoln Pius X (15-4) | 3

6. Omaha Westside (18-4) | 7

7. Lincoln Northeast (13-6) | 9

8. Fremont (16-6) | 4

9. Papillion-La Vista (18-4) | 6

10. Millard West (11-9) | -

Contenders: Lincoln North Star, Omaha Benson, Omaha Northwest.

Comments: Lincoln East surged past city rival Lincoln Southwest on Friday and then turned around to hold off a tough Omaha Northwest team on Saturday. The Spartans vault to third, while Southwest rises above Pius X after a bounce-back win against the Thunderbolts. Millard West enters at No. 10 after recent wins against Lincoln Northeast and Omaha Benson. Fremont, which is without starting point guard Sydney Golladay (ACL injury) for the rest of the season, has some tough tests this week.

Key games: Tuesday—Omaha Benson at Millard North, Lincoln Pius X at Omaha Northwest; Thursday—Millard North at Fremont, Lincoln North Star at Millard West; Friday—Lincoln North Star at Fremont.

CLASS B

Team (Rec.) | Pvs

1. Crete (18-4) | 2

2. Seward (17-4) | 3

3. Waverly (19-2) | 4

4. South Sioux City (17-6) | 1

5. Elkhorn (16-5) | 6

6. Northwest (15-5) | 5

7. Elkhorn South (10-12) | 7

8. Omaha Skutt (17-5) | 8

9. Sidney (20-2) | 9

10. Bennington (14-8) | 10

Contenders: Norris, North Platte, Omaha Gross.

Comments: South Sioux City nearly overcame a 15-point deficit before falling short at Omaha Gross on Friday. The Cardinals drop from the top after having their 10-game winning streak snapped. Elkhorn flips spots with Northwest after pushing Class A No. 5 Pius X to the limit. Like last year, Elkhorn South is starting to gain some momentum after cutting its teeth on a Class A schedule.

Let's talk postseason: All four teams -- Omaha Skutt, Elkhorn, Bennington and Elkhorn South -- in the B-1 subdistrict are ranked. It's easily the most-competitive among the eight subdistricts. Seward and Crete could see each other the B-4 district final. Crete is 2-0 against the Bluejays this season. The eight subdistrict champions and the next eight teams in the wild-card standings will meet in Saturday's district finals.

CLASS C-1

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Wahoo (21-0) | 1

2. Bishop Neumann (17-3) | 2

3. Mitchell (21-1) | 3

4. Grand Island CC (17-4) | 4

5. Lincoln Christian (14-8) | 5

6. West Point-Beemer (21-1) | 6

7. Louisville (19-3) | 8

8. Aquinas (16-5) | 7

9. Milford (18-4) | 9

10. North Bend Central (16-7) | 10

Contenders: Adams Central, Arlington, Broken Bow, Columbus Lakeview, Malcolm, O'Neill.

Comments: Louisville swaps places with Aquinas after Aquinas' loss to D-2 No. 1 Humphrey St. Francis. Grand Island Central Catholic is not penalized for a loss to C-2 No. 1 Hastings St. Cecilia.

Let's talk postseason: No. 1 Wahoo and No. 2 Bishop Neumann are in the same subdistrict and could possibly see each other on Thursday in Schuyler. The Cavaliers, however, will have a tough opening act against No. 8 Aquinas. Other subdistricts with multiple rated teams include West Point-Beemer and North Bend Central in C1-6. Milford and Lincoln Christian are also in another subdistrict involving rated teams.

CLASS C-2

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Hastings SC (20-1) | 1

2. Oakland-Craig (18-3) | 2

3. Crofton (18-3) | 3

4. Fillmore Central (19-4) | 4

5. Ponca (21-2) | 5

6. Superior (17-4) | 7

7. Blue Hill (19-3) | 9

8. Yutan (18-4) | -

9. Centennial (16-6) | 6

10. Clarkson/Leigh (19-3) | 9

Contenders: Burwell, Elm Creek, Lourdes CC, Wood River.

Comments: Yutan's 49-46 win against Centennial moves it back into the top 10. Oakland-Craig is not penalized for a loss to C-1 No. 6 West Point-Beemer. Several teams will enter subdistricts riding long winning streaks. Blue Hill hasn't lost since Dec. 11, Ponca hasn't lost since Dec. 18 and St. Cecilia hasn't lost since Jan. 8. Crofton hasn't lost to Nebraska competition since Dec. 4.

Let's talk postseason: Southern Nebraska Conference foes Superior and Fillmore Central could meet in a subdistrict final. Fillmore Central won the first meeting this year by a point. St. Cecilia and Blue Hill could see each other, too, in subdistrict play.

CLASS D-1

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Pleasanton (22-1) | 1

2. North Platte St. Pat's (21-1) | 2

3. Archbishop Bergan (13-8) | 3

4. North Central (18-1) | 6

5. Weeping Water (16-7) | 5

6. Humphrey/LHF (18-4) | 4

7. Dundy Co.-Stratton (19-2) | 7

8. Lawrence-Nelson (18-4) | 8

9. Elkhorn Valley (20-4) | 9

10. Hitchcock County (18-3) | 10

Contenders: Cambridge, Elgin/PJ, Hartington-Newcastle, Johnson-Brock.

Comments: North Central jumps up two spots after Weeping Water and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family suffered losses in the final week of the regular season. Pleasanton will enter postseason play on a 19-game winning streak, and has yet to lose against D-1 competition. North Platte St. Pat's, which played without Kaleigh Kummer in a loss to Cambridge over a week ago, has the all-state guard back.

Let's talk postseason: No. 3 Bergan and No. 5 Weeping Water could see each other in a subdisrict final. Bergan's athletic guards vs. the duo of Peyton Barrett and Grave Cave would make for an appealing matchup. Dundy County-Stratton, Hitchcock County and Cambridge are each in the D1-11 bracket.

CLASS D-2

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Humphrey SF (20-3) | 1

2. Falls City SH (20-3) | 2

3. CWC (18-4) | 3

4. Sterling (19-4) | 4

5. BDS (18-4) | 5

6. Wynot (16-6) | 6

7. Ewing (17-4) | 7

8. Mullen (18-3) | 8

9. Exeter-Milligan (18-4) | 9

10. Maywood-Hayes Center (18-5) | -

Contenders: Loomis, Sioux County, South Platte.

Comments: The only change comes at No. 10 after Maywood-Hayes Center's convincing win against previously unbeaten South Platte. That leaves only one unbeaten team (Wahoo) in the entire state. Humphrey St. Francis solidified its spot with a nice win against C-1-rated Aquinas. Wynot is not penalized for losses to teams from Class C-1 (Pierce) and C-2 (Ponca).

Let's talk postseason: A fourth meeting this season between Falls City Sacred Heart and Sterling is possible in the D2-1 subdistrict final, while Crossroads Conference rivals BDS and Exeter-Milligan could see each other in D2-2. Niorbrara Valley Conference teams CWC and Ewing could potentially meet for a third time this season. Both are in the D2-5 pod.
