Elmwood-Murdock vs. Freeman, 2.01

Freeman's Brady Ideus (35) shoots against Elmwood-Murdock last Friday during the East Central Nebraska Conference boys semifinals at Southeast Community College.

Records through Saturday

Class A

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Bellevue West (20-1) | 1

2. Omaha Central (15-5) | 2

3. Omaha Westside (14-4) | 4

4. Creighton Prep (17-3) | 5

5. Kearney (16-4) | 3

6. Omaha South (11-6) | 6

7. Lincoln North Star (11-7) | -

8. Lincoln East (14-4) | 7

9. Millard North (11-7) | 8

10. Millard West (9-7) | 9

Contenders: Omaha Bryan, Elkhorn South, Lincoln High, Papillion-La Vista South.

Comments: North Star’s win over Lincoln East and Creighton Prep’s road conquest at Class B No. 1 Lincoln Pius X account for this week’s changes. Kearney is 0-2 against Pius X this season and Westside’s win over Creighton Prep in mid-January (part of a six-game winning streak for the Warriors) explains the Bearcats’ two-spot demotion. Creighton Prep faces a state tournament-type weekend with road games at Bellevue West Friday and at Kansas City Rockhurst (19-1), the top-ranked team in Missouri’s Class 5 last week.

Key games: Tuesday—Papillion-La Vista South at North Star; Friday—Lincoln Southwest at Lincoln East, Creighton Prep at Bellevue West, Omaha Bryan at Omaha South, Papillion-La Vista South at Elkhorn South; Saturday—Creighton Prep at Rockhurst, Kearney at North Star, Bellevue West at Elkhorn South, Papillion-La Vista South at Millard West.

Class B

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Lincoln Pius X (16-2) | 1

2. Aurora (19-1) | 2

3. Omaha Roncalli (17-2) | 3

4. Mount Michael (14-5) | 4

5. Omaha Skutt (16-4) | 5

6. York (16-3) | 7

7. Hastings (11-4) | 8

8. Bennington (15-3) | 9

9. Seward (14-4) | 6

10. Norris (9-10) | 10

Contenders: Alliance, Lexington, Blair, North Platte, Elkhorn, Platteview, Waverly, Scottsbluff.

Comments: Pius X’s fans got their money’s worth at home last week with its 73-70 overtime win over Skutt and a 63-62 loss to A No. 4 Creighton Prep which snapped the Thunderbolts’ 15-game winning streak. Waverly’s upset of Seward drops the Bluejays three spots.

Key games: Tuesday—Pius X at Elkhorn, Omaha Roncalli at Bennington; Thursday—Norris at Omaha Skutt, Elkhorn at Bennington, Hastings at Adams Central; Friday—Seward at York, Lincoln Lutheran at Mount Michael; Saturday—Lincoln Pius X at Lincoln Southwest, Lincoln Christian at Norris, Heartland Hoops Classic at Grand Island (Aurora vs. Cozad, York vs. Bennington, Hastings vs. Freeman, Omaha Skutt vs. Adams Central).

Class C-1

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Wahoo (17-3) | 1

2. Ogallala (21-0) | 2

3. Adams Central (13-5) | 3

4. Bishop Neumann (13-6) | 5

5. North Bend Central (17-2) | 4

6. Kearney Catholic (15-3) | 6

7. Lincoln Christian (15-6) | 7

8. Boys Town (13-6) | 8

9. Auburn (15-2) | 9

10. Grand Island CC (12-7) | 10

Contenders: Lincoln Lutheran, Ashland-Greenwood, Broken Bow, Chase County, Cozad, Milford.

Comments: North Bend Central’s loss to C-2 No. 1 BRLD in the East Husker Conference finals allows Centennial Conference champion Neumann to move up one position. Auburn is not penalized for an overtime loss to C-2 No. 9 Yutan in the East Central Nebraska Conference tournament semifinals. GICC stays in the top 10 after a two-point overtime setback to B contender Lexington and a one-point road loss at No. 1 Wahoo.

Key games: Thursday—Auburn at Lincoln Lutheran, Lincoln Christian at Kearney Catholic; Friday—Archbishop Bergan at Bishop Neumann; Saturday—Ashland-Greenwood at Wahoo, Milford at Boys Town, Heartland Hoops Classic at Grand Island (North Bend Central vs. GICC, Auburn vs. BRLD).

Class C-2

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. BRLD (17-1) | 1

2. Sutton (18-2) | 3

3. Centennial (17-2) | 2

4. Freeman (16-3) | 5

5. Tri County (16-4) | 4

6. Laurel-C-C (19-2) | 9

7. Ponca (16-4) | 7

8. Wakefield (14-3) | 8

9. Yutan (15-5) | 10

10. Bridgeport (18-2) | -

Contenders: Hartington CC, Howells-Dodge, South Loup, Doniphan-Trumbull, Centura, Wisner-Pilger, Lutheran Northeast, Neligh-Oakdale.

Comments: The ratings do not account for Monday’s Lewis & Clark Conference final between Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and D-2 No. 4 Osmond. L-C-C’s win over Ponca in the semifinals changed up the middle of the rankings. Sutton is rewarded for its win over Centennial in the Southern Nebraska Conference Tournament finals. Freeman moves up a spot for winning the East Central Nebraska Conference Tournament, beating Yutan in the finals. Hartington Cedar Catholic exits because of an 18-point first-round loss to C-1 unranked Pierce in the Mid State Conference Tournament.

Key games: Tuesday—BRLD at Wisner-Pilger; Thursday—Johnson-Brock at Freeman; Friday—Wakefield at Howells-Dodge; Next Monday—MUDECAS: Falls City Sacred Heart vs. Tri County (first place), Freeman vs. Johnson-Brock (third).

Class D-1

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Paxton (18-0) | 1

2. Archbishop Bergan (12-7) | 2

3. Fullerton (14-5) 5

4. Anselmo-Merna (14-3) | 7

5. Ansley-Litchfield (17-3) | 8

6. Humphrey/LHF (15-5) | 4

7. Overton (14-3) | 9

8. Elm Creek (17-2) | 3

9. Kenesaw (13-3) | 6

10. Clearwater-Orchard (13-8) | -

Contenders: Dundy County-Stratton, Wauneta-Palisade, West Holt, Boyd County, Wilcox-Hildreth, Pleasanton.

Comments: Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family, Elm Creek, Kenesaw and Wilcox-Hildreth all lost in their respective conference tournaments and take a ratings hit as a result. Overton’s Fort Kearny Conference title and Clearwater-Orchard’s three wins in the Niobrara Valley Conference Tournament (including wins over contenders Boyd County and West Holt). This is a wide-open class; expect many more ratings changes as the season winds down.

Key games: Tuesday—Hershey at Paxton, Anselmo-Merna at South Loup, Overton at Wilcox-Hildreth; Friday—Anselmo-Merna at Ansley-Litchfield.

Class D-2

Team (Rec.) | Pvs.

1. Falls City SH (19-1) | 1

2. Johnson-Brock (17-2) | 2

3. Riverside (16-0) | 3

4. Osmond (18-1) | 4

5. Humphrey SF (16-4) | 5

6. Blue Hill (13-6) | -

7. Loomis (13-5) | 6

8. Exeter-Milligan (15-4) | 10

9. Mullen (14-5) | 8

10. Giltner (11-8) |9

Comments: Falls City Sacred Heart posted its second win of the season over Johnson-Brock in the Pioneer Conference final. New top 10 entry Blue Hill, which started the season 0-5, has won 12 straight and captured the Twin Valley Conference tournament title this past weekend.

Key games: Tuesday—Aquinas at Humphrey St. Francis; Friday—Deshler at Blue Hill, Osmond at Wausa, North Andrew, Mo. at Falls City Sacred Heart; Saturday—Heartland Hoops Classic (Riverside vs. Loomis), Shelby-Rising City at Humphrey SF.
