Omaha Burke powered past New Brighton 6-0 Friday at the American Legion Central Plains Regional in Dickinson, North Dakota. Burke's win in the elimination game was a big bounce-back from a 12-1 loss to Dubuque County, Iowa, on Thursday.
Noah Olson drove in the first run of the game for Burke on an RBI single in the third inning. Tyler Cate hit a run-scoring single in the fourth, then Connor McElderry stole home to extend the lead to 3-0.
Nicholas Hall then cemented the win with a three-run home run in the seventh inning.
Burke is scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against against West Fargo, North Dakota.
Also at the regional, Millard West scored three runs in the seventh inning but was unable to complete the rally in the 5-4, elimination game loss to Rapid City, South Dakota.
Rapid City got on the board first in the first inning and maintained a 1-0 lead through the first four innings. Millard West tied the game in the top of the fifth, but Rapid City scored two runs in the bottom frame to retake a 3-1 lead.
Rapid City then scored two more runs in the sixth inning before Millard West made it close with three runs in the top of the seventh, one on Jackson Meier's walk with the bases loaded and two on a fielder's choice and error.
The loss knocked Millard West out of the tournament.
