High Plains vs. East Butler, prep football, 11.4.15

High Plains wide receiver Kyle Van Housen (6) runs away from East Butler's Skyler Ratkovec for a first down in the first quarter of Wednesday's Class D-1 second-round playoff game at East Butler High School in Dwight.

Tuesday's quarterfinals

Class D-1

No. 2 BDS (10-0) at No. 1 Guardian Angels Central Catholic (10-0), Beemer, 6 p.m.: The BDS offense has been solid, and the defense proved last week that it can hold up its end of the bargain. GACC's Tanner Hass and Tyler Holz have big-game potential.

No. 6 Creighton (10-0) at No. 9 High Plains (8-2), Clarks, 4 p.m.: Creighton's defense has been stingy. High Plains may have to cobble together its lineup. QB Thomas Young and RB Josh DeMers were hurt last week, and WR Tyson Fate took over at QB and had a big game.

No. 8 Burwell (9-1) at No. 5 Amherst (10-0), 5 p.m.: Burwell's Victory Sikes has accounted for 43 scores and thrown for more than 1,500 yards. Amherst beat Burwell 34-21 in the final regular-season game. Bronco QB Trey Taubenheim has thrown for 2,651 yards and 48 TDs.

Clearwater/Orchard (7-3) at Elgin/Pope John (8-2), 7 p.m.: Andy Kerkman has caught passes for 745 of the 1,474 yards Zach Martin has passed for this year for Clearwater/Orchard. Elgin/Pope John's Andrew Fangman last week rushed for 282 of his 2,291 yards.

Class D-2

No. 2 CWC (10-0) at No. 7 Anselmo-Merna (9-1), 5 p.m.: Brenden Pelster has rushed for 1,065 yards and passed for 1,096, plus he kicks off and returns kickoffs and has 4 interceptions for CWC. Troy Gilligan leads last year's runner-up Anselmo-Merna with 1,976 yards in total offense.

No. 6 Sandhills/Thedford (9-1) at No. 3 Garden County (10-0), Oshkosh, 2 p.m. (MST): Jacey Nutter has thrown for 1,384 yards and 25 TDs for Sandhills/Thedford. Garden County looks to Matt McCarthy to spark the offense.

No. 1 Falls City Sacred Heart (9-1) at No. 5 Humphrey St. Francis (9-1), 3 p.m.: Irish QB Bailey Witt has passed for 1,079 yards and run for 561. RB Sean Arnold is expected to play despite a bruised bone in his foot. St. Francis looks to Kyle Wemhoff to spark the offense.

Wynot (8-1) at No. 4 Exeter-Milligan (9-1), Milligan, 3 p.m.: Cody Stratman has rushed for 1,540 yards for Wynot. The two-time defending champion Timberwolves looks to Sam Zeleny on both offense and defense.
