Ord made history on Friday night. The Chanticleers are hoping to make a little more.

Ord, ranked fourth in Class C-1, secured its first appearance in the state football finals with a 37-0 shutout of No. 5 Bishop Neumann in Ord.

The Chanticleers took a 14-0 lead in the second quarter on a trick play when Solomon Campise found Quinton Ries in the corner of the end zone on a reverse pass.

Ord never looked back after that. It took a 21-0 second-quarter lead on Jesse Ulrich's 11-yard touchdown and pushed the cushion to 28 on his 3-yard score.

Ulrich produced 263 yards of total offense.

"Growing up here all 18 years, you just dream of this as a little kid,” Ulrich, who rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns and was 7-for-14 passing for 90 yards. “Just to accomplish it when everyone at the beginning of the season doubted you is special. You can’t put it into words. I love every single one of these guys and, no, we’re not done yet. We’re going to keep going.”

Ord (11-1) hadn’t even qualified for the postseason over the previous four seasons and had won a total of one playoff game since 1999.

Neumann (9-3), which knocked off No. 1 Pierce last week, was seeking its second state finals appearance in three years.

Cavaliers quarterback Noah Vedral threw for 122 yards.
