Lincoln Christian vs. Bishop Neumann

Bishop Neumann quarterback Eli Vedral runs the ball into the end zone for a touchdown on Friday at Lincoln Christian High School.

From the first play to the last, Class C-1 No. 3 Bishop Neumann (4-0) dominated Lincoln Christian (0-4) at Lincoln Christian in a 53-6 blowout Friday.

On the very first snap, Neumann quarterback Eli Vedral scampered 44 yards inside the Christian 5-yard line.

Though the Cavaliers failed to score after the Crusaders forced a turnover on downs, it was an omen of what was about to unfold for the next 40 minutes.

"We had a nice first play and got all the way down there and then you think you are going to get it in and they stuff us and they stuff us," Bishop Neumann coach Tim Turman said. "We have some good size and some good speed in the backfield and I think that just kind of took over."

Neumann opened the scoring with a 5-yard run from Spencer Wiese and added a 53-yard touchdown run from David Lilly to cap a 14-0 first quarter.

The Cavaliers continued to roll behind the leadership of Vedral under center, who helped Bishop Neumann to a 27-point second quarter.

"That's the thing; Eli does everything that you want a really good quarterback to do," Turman said. "From on-the-field reads to a lot of plays that we run he audibles to. He audibles from one and into another because of the defense they are showing, and he's a very smart quarterback."

Vedral had touchdown runs of 7 and 5 yards and a 10-yard touchdown pass to Trey Miller. Brandon Blum also added a 23-yard swing pass from Vedral for the Cavs' fourth score of the quarter.

"Lincoln Christian came out and we had that great, big first play, and they really clamped down on us at the end," Vedral said. "We need to work on being able to execute right from the start of the game, halves and quarters.

"From then on, we just kind of got together and focused in that (Lincoln Christian) isn't just going to give this to us."

The Crusaders' bright spot came in the third quarter when Trent Lockard went 80 yards to the house on the ensuing kickoff following Blum's second touchdown run.

Vedral finished with 56 yards rushing on five carries and completed 4 of 5 passes for 89 yards and a touchdown. Blum led the Cavaliers in rushing with 112 yards and two scores.
