Cam Frederick had 13 points, including five free throws late, to help lift the Lincoln Southwest boys basketball team to a 54-49 win at North Platte on Tuesday.
Southwest dealt with a pair of 18-point scorers in Jack Mohr and Caleb Horne, but two three-pointers from Frazzie Wynn, who finished with eight points, aided the Silver Hawks' 19-8 fourth-quarter advantage.
Lincoln Southwest 60, North Platte 38: The Silver Hawks pulled away in the second half as Jaden Ferguson scored eight of her game-high 22 points and Hannah Kelle added four of her 16, both in the third quarter, to help Lincoln Southwest on a 16-6 run. Southwest held a 28-22 halftime advantage before the Silver Hawks' defensive intensity made an impact over the final two quarters.
Southeast sweeps double duals: The Lincoln Southeast boys and girls both swept their double duals with Grand Island and Lincoln North Star at North Star. Michelle Kang won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 8.7 seconds) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.80), and Abby Ertz took first in the 50 freestyle (:26.25) and 100 freestyle (:59.08). On the boys side, Timur Kounikeev placed first in the 200 freestyle, winning in a time of 1:58.92. Grand Island sophomore Jonathan Novinski won the 100 butterfly in :54.87 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.37.
Rockets split duals: Lincoln Northeast split a pair of duals, defeating Omaha Bryan 46-36 after falling to Bellevue West 45-27 at Northeast. Preston Mort picked up a pair of victories at 152 pounds for Northeast, pinning Carlo Jiminez-Fuentes of Omaha Bryan in 3 minutes, 3 seconds and added a technical fall against Bellevue West's Seth Sage 16-0 in four minutes. Charles Dungan (106 pounds) added a pair of pins for the Rockets between his two opponents, while Chayse Schaub (145) added a pin and a major decision.
