Class A, Lincoln East vs. Millard South, 3/2/18

Lincoln East head coach Dennis Prichard talks with player Delaney Roberts in the second half against Millard South on Friday during a Class A semifinal at the state girls basketball tournament at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Records through Saturday

CLASS A

Team (Rec.) | Pvs

1. Millard South (19-3) | 2

2. Millard North (18-4) | 1

3. Lincoln East (17-5) | 3

4. Lincoln Southwest (18-4) | 4

5. Lincoln Pius X (17-4) | 5

6. Omaha Westside (20-4) | 6

7. Lincoln Northeast (15-6) | 7

8. Fremont (17-7) | 8

9. Papillion-La Vista (20-4) | 9

10. Omaha Benson (16-5) | -

Contenders: Lincoln North Star, Millard West, Omaha Northwest.

Comments: Omaha Benson upended previously No. 1 Millard North on the Mustangs' home court, and that results in the only changes entering districts. Millard South regains the top spot, while Benson checks in at No. 10. Districts should be fun to watch. Many of these teams are riding a lot of momentum entering the postseason. Lincoln East has won 12 of 13 games, Pius X has won 11 of 12, Lincoln Southwest has won 15 of 17, Millard North has won 11 of 12 and Omaha Westside has won 12 of 13.

CLASS B

Team (Rec.) | Pvs

1. Crete (19-5) | 1

2. Seward (20-4) | 2

3. Waverly (22-2) | 3

4. Elkhorn (19-5) | 5

5. Elkhorn South (12-13) | 7

6. South Sioux City (19-7) | 4

7. Northwest (18-5) | 6

8. Omaha Skutt (18-6) | 8

9. Norris (11-12) | -

10. Sidney (22-3) | 9

Comments: The unpredictable nature of Class B continued last week, which included Norris' upset of Crete in the subdistrict semifinals. The Cardinals, however, maintain the top spot based on their two head-to-head wins against Seward. Elkhorn moves up after beating Elkhorn South in triple overtime in a subdistrict final, and Elkhorn South moves up after beating South Sioux City on the road in a district final. There remains no clear-cut favorite entering the state tournament. The top five teams each certainly have the pieces to win three games in Lincoln.
