If ESPN's "SportsCenter" was looking for a sequence of plays for its top-10 plays of the night, Waverly has a video cued up.
Friday's Waverly-Blair boys basketball game — in a span of 4.5 seconds — featured two half-court shots that were waved off, and a buzzer-beating three-pointer. Waverly won 53-50.
With the game tied at 50, Blair's Quincy Nichols was fouled, and in the act of shooting, launched a shot from two-thirds court. It went in, but the officials waved it off, saying the foul occurred before the shot attempt.
Waverly had fouls to give, so Blair tried to inbound the ball. Jay Adams, in the game to foul, stole the ball and launched a half-court shot that went in. But Vikings coach Ryan Reeder had called a timeout before the shot.
That left about 1.5 seconds on the clock. Senior Merrick Deger came off a screen and banked a three-pointer at the buzzer. Game-winner.
