Lincoln High vs. Lincoln Pius X, 1.2

Pius X’s Kolbe Rada (33) drives to the basket against Lincoln High’s Jaden Horton in the second half on Wednesday during the Heartland Athletic Conference semifinal at Lincoln High School.

A No. 5 Kearney (9-2) at B No. 2 Lincoln Pius X (9-1), Bishop Flavin Gym, 7 p.m.: The newest Heartland Athletic Conference members have raised the level of basketball in the HAC, reaching the finals in their first season in the league. Behind 6-foot-8 Liberty recruit Shiloh Robinson, Kearney has won nine straight after an 0-2 start. Fatigue, however, could be a factor Monday as this is the Bearcats’ fourth game in six days, needing double overtime in last Wednesday’s semifinals to avenge an earlier loss this season to Lincoln East before escaping with a 72-68 win over upset-minded Lincoln Southeast on Saturday. Led by standout senior guard Charlie Easley, the Thunderbolts also have plenty of momentum with an eight-game winning streak and a 76-65 victory against A No. 7 Millard North on Saturday. After years of being an independent, expect a fired-up Pius X team and fan base on Monday with a conference championship on the line.
