Boys: Meet the Journal Star's 2019-20 multi-sport athletes of the year

Football: Was a Class B all-stater after helping the Vikings reach the semifinals of the playoffs by rushing for 700 yards and scoring 19 touchdowns on offense, registering an interception and fumble recovery from his outside linebacker spot and making 45 of 46 extra points as the kicker.

Wrestling: After taking second at state as a sophomore, Canoyer took it one step further in February by winning the Class B 170-pound weight class title and finishing the season 29-1.

Football: The Class B all-state quarterback threw for a Class B state-record 3,421 yards and 41 touchdowns in leading Roncalli to the semifinals of the playoffs. In his final high school football game, a 63-56 loss to Scottsbluff, he threw for an 11-man state playoff record 453 yards and six touchdowns and scored on a TD run.

Basketball: Earned first-team Class B all-state honors for the second straight season after spearheading the Crimson Pride’s second straight run to the state finals. Averaged 15.4 points and 4.3 rebounds for the season.

Football: The transfer from Millard West took control of the powerful Thunderbird offense and helped it produce an undefeated Class A state championship season. Glantz completed almost 70% of his passes (195-of-280) for 2,493 yards and 36 touchdowns while throwing just one interception all season.

Basketball: Pulled off a rare Class A double with a gold medal in basketball, playing a key role off the bench as a defensive stopper as well as contributing with hustle plays for the T-Birds.

Football: The first-team Super-Stater’s line play on both sides of the ball powered the Warriors to the Class A state finals. On defense, he made 68 tackles, five for losses, two sacks and also blocked two kicks.

Wrestling: Went 40-3 and reached the state finals at 285 pounds before losing to undefeated Isaac Trumble of Millard South for the gold medal.

Football: The lone eight-man player named to the 2019 Super-State team caught 65 passes for 1,353 yards and 23 touchdowns as a wide receiver and made 110 tackles (11 for losses) and intercepted three passes from his linebacker spot. The three-time all-stater led the Eagles to the 2018 Class D-2 state title as a junior. Turned down a scholarship offer from Wyoming to walk on with the Huskers.

Basketball: The three-time, first-team all-stater averaged 19.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this past season as Johnson-Brock reached the D-2 state tournament.

Football: Earned Class C-1 all-state honors as a wide receiver/free safety, helping the Bluejays reach the quarterfinals of the state playoffs by catching 23 passes for 486 yards and nine touchdowns, registering 41 tackles (10 behind the line of scrimmage), intercepting five passes and recovering one fumble.

Basketball: The honorary captain of the C-1 all-state team is beginning to get Division I college recruiting interest after averaging 22.4 points and 8.8 rebounds in leading Ashland-Greenwood to the state tournament.

Football: Named to the second-team Super-State defensive team after registering 63 tackles and 4.5 sacks while also intercepting a pass and blocking a kick for the Spartans, who reached the state playoffs.

Basketball: Was an honorable mention Class A all-stater by averaging 13 points and 5.8 rebounds this past winter.

Football: The captain of the D-2 all-state team was a dual-threat quarterback on a Flyers team that dominated almost everyone they played en route to a 13-0 state championship season. Pfeifer rushed for 614 yards and 19 touchdowns and threw for 784 yards and 14 scores.

Basketball: The leading scorer on St. Francis’ state runner-up team, the only loss coming in the state finals to Falls City Sacred Heart. The first-team all-stater averaged 16.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Football: The D-1 all-state receiver caught 69 passes for 1,096 yards and 19 TDs, while also making 53 tackles (three for losses) and intercepting six passes from his cornerback position.

Basketball: The first-team all-stater led the Bears to the D-1 state title by averaging 23.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. He became only the second player in Nebraska boys basketball history to finish with more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

Football: A foot injury limited the two-time all-state receiver to only eight of the Wolverines’ 12 games, but he still caught 49 passes for 775 yards and nine touchdowns to help BRLD reach the semifinals of the Class C-2 playoffs. He had 34 tackles on defense and three interceptions.

Basketball: The two-time first-team all-state point guard sparked BRLD to its second straight C-2 state title and an undefeated season. Vogt averaged 16.3 points, four rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.8 steals per game this past winter.
